Inspiration Point Loop Hike, Will Rogers State Park
WOAR board member Terri West will lead the group on this easy to moderate two mile hike.
In addition to a rare polo field, renown ranch house, and a lawn that begs to be picnicked on, Will Rogers State Historic Park has plenty to offer to hikers. This is the eastern end of the 65-mile long Backbone Trail, which crosses the Santa Monica Mountains all the way to Point Mugu, and Will Rogers SHP is also home to a delightful short hike to a popular overlook. The loop to Inspiration Point is 2.25 miles long with 325 feet of elevation gain. The gradual hike delivers far reaching views from Santa Monica Bay to downtown LA.
Bonus: Terri will instruct an optional 20-minuted boot camp at Inspiration Point for those who care to partake!
Take I-10 west to Pacific Coast Highway, north to Chataqua and go right. Go to Sunset Boulevard and turn right. Go half a mile to Will Rogers Road and turn left at the light, up the winding road to the park entrance.
Or take I-405 and exit at Sunset Boulevard and head west. Take Sunset to Will Rogers Road (approximately 4 to 5 miles) and turn right. Go up the winding road to the park entrance.
Parking fee: $12 There is free street parking outside of the park, but it’s a bit of a walk to the WOAR meeting spot. The parking fee goes towards maintaining the beautiful park grounds.
Meeting Place: We will meet one the grassy area by the parking lot across from the polo field.
Also, consider bringing a picnic lunch and leaving it in a cooler in your car during the hike and we’ll enjoy some social time while picnicking on the grass after hiking.
Dogs on leash on OK. Rain cancels.
